FRDM Roasters co. is the only official Wood fired Coffee Roastery in RSA, yes you read it correctly, Wood fired Coffee Roasting, and it's not on an open fire. It works on a sophisticated roasting system combining technology, green energy and a whole lot of science. The first question we get is one of consistency, but that is where science comes in, together with great coffee suppliers and a lot of focus.

Our single origin Uganda Rwenzori Mountain Natural that just won double gold, is a super interesting coffee, one with fruity yet deep African notes. Think rose-petal Turkish delight with dark chocolate, this is how one customer explained it. For us, it's the perfect balance between acidity, body and flavour. “Words don't describe good coffee, taste does… ha ha”

Our success is rooted in our passion to always try and better our outcome. Understanding and learning enough about the “Greens” you use, helps plenty when approaching the roast.
Then, obviously the biggest contributing factor is that we only use Olive Wood from the Lovely De Hoop Farm situated in Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa that is 100% organic.

Our consumers are literally spread across South Africa, Africa and even further abroad. It is a mix between coffee connoisseurs up to the average every day easy coffee drinker. What we have seen in the last 5 years is that once a client starts using Freedom coffee, they stick. So we must be doing something right.
We are definitely ready and more than able to compete on the global stage, and competitions like the Aurora International Tasting Awards, help brands like ourselves proof just that.
South Africa, Namibia, the United States (on request), and Dubai (on request).
We are currently exploring the world of high-quality limited Decaf, and also introducing new single origins in our range of coffees.

Coffee Solutions was founded in 2004 when we initially started in the coffee industry with a single client that was looking for an outsourced hot beverage and vending operator. Once we started with that client, we expanded our offering over the years to add fresh milk equipment solutions and then also started importing our own coffee vending machines from Italy. We then partnered with a roastery to help develop and roast our own recipes of coffee beans to sell to the clients that were purchasing their coffee machines from us. Once this had grown to a decent size, we had the opportunity to purchase a complete roastery in Montague Gardens in 2017 and also slowly stated entering the hospitality sector as well. Once we started on this journey, we started labelling our coffee “Wicked” with a catchphrase of Wicked.Good.Coffee.

Coffee means different things to people and there is an incredible range which is available to the market in South Africa, which also means that everybody doesn’t necessarily enjoy the same taste profile. We roast coffee that we enjoy drinking, and a central tenet of that philosophy is we want to try and have our customers look forward to the next cup of coffee. Therefore, we generally would like to develop roasts and blends which can be enjoyed through different brewing methods but are always rich and satisfying with a touch of sweetness and without bitterness. We also try to develop our coffees in a way that the man on the street can enjoy them without needing extremely expensive equipment and without being a trained barista.

We LOVE our Diablo blend! We enjoy all the coffees which we roast, and we are proud of all of them, but it's always a great day when we put the Diablo back in the Grinder. Furthermore, we are also proud of our hot chocolate powder that we blend and mix ourselves. Our Luxury chocolate is aimed at coffee shops with a pretty high cocoa content to provide an upmarket bitter-sweet flavour profile and then our Deluxe Chocolate powders can be used through vending machines as well, just by mixing in hot water.
Our fluid bed roaster, which is imported from America, provides an excellent ability to repeat the same profile when roasting batches of coffee and provides a very clean taste profile. It means that the coffee we roast is consistent from a roasting and production point of view, from there we depend on our green bean suppliers to provide us with coffees that have consistent characteristics and are of the best quality possible.

We love what we do and the products that we produce, and a great day is whenever someone tastes your coffee and smiles or is enthusiastic about what you have given them. We genuinely try to satisfy the customer’s needs and wants, but should we be unable to provide something then we would rather point them in the correct direction rather than trying to force something on them which doesn't fit, just to make a sale. Furthermore, we try and develop our products in such a way that we first look at the sensation that we want to achieve on tasting the product, then we work our way backwards until we achieve that.

South Africa.
We would like to keep developing some ideas that we have for some other flavour profiles that appeal to our tastes, as well as to extend our range of powdered products.

Difference Coffee was founded in 2015. Its founder, Amir Gehl, begun drinking coffee several years prior and was intrigued to try rare varietals such as Jamaica Blue Mountain, Kopi Luwak, and competition champion coffees, but these were not available to purchase in a capsule form. He experimented by purchasing ground Kona coffee from Harrods and packed them by hand into empty Nespresso style capsules. These tasted delicious and that’s really how the idea for Difference Coffee came about – to produce the world’s rarest coffees, in capsules.
What makes Difference Coffee unique is that we aim to purchase the tastiest coffees in the world, and we do that using a grading methodology which is accepted by the coffee industry. Not many people know it, but Arabica is graded using a 100 point system, which was created by the Specialty Coffee Association. What we do each year is buy literally some of the highest scoring coffees in the world – many of which are competition champion coffees. Therefore, the claim of selling the back is supported by a grade, and is not just marketing fluff.

We have a limited range of coffees, and each one is unique in its own way. Arabica is made up of a group of varietals and our aim is to locate the tastiest varietal from the country it is mostly known for. For example, Blue Mountain coffee is not exclusive to Jamaica, it’s grown in other countries too, but Jamaica produces the tastiest of them. Likewise, we always buy the tastiest Geisha coffee from Panama only, as it is the best terroir for the coffee. In sum, we have a collection of terroir-led coffees, all of which represent the tastiest expression of that particular varietal.
Our manufacturing process is fairly straightforward. We roast the coffee in many ways to come up with the ultimate profile for the beans, using a sample roaster, and then it is replicated on a bigger scale.
The quality of the beans that we buy. We buy single estate coffees, we don’t blend anything. There’s no need to blend what is already the best.

Our products, at the moment, are mostly consumed in luxury hospitality and Michelin restaurants, we have over 100 of these and our largest markets are the UK and Italy. Chefs were the first to adopt it because they saw the value of creating a coffee menu which a tastier offering. We also sell our coffee capsules to private clients directly through our online store, and we ship worldwide. We have clients in over 40 countries and many repeat clients, so we are grateful that our patrons love our products.
We believe that we sell the world’s best coffees in capsules and that no other company does what we do. Those who attempt to, normally fall short on quality, they fail to buy the absolute best beans because they are too expensive, and it’s risky for them. We already have the clients, so we don’t have that problem.

Literally worldwide.
To keep doing what we are doing best. We don’t think we can do any better, if we could, we would be doing it already. That said, we always follow the industry to see if there’s new knowledge and trends out there. A new coffee varietal, a new roaster, a new grinder, we are never complacent.

We are also working on the waste management project not just to demolish wastes from production, but to upcycle and recycle the byproducts or wastes from production to make every single piece worth. This is a huge step of the industry combining innovative ideas and technology into our production processes, not just producing the products.

Crater Coffees (Pty) Ltd was founded in 2012 in Parys, a small Free State town, located within the Vredefort Dome World Heritage area, where a meteor struck earth leaving a massive crater in its wake. Our hometown Parys and the Penny-farthing bicycle used in our logo were both derived from Paris in France. We are a proudly South African company.
Three friends saw the opportunity to create a coffee connected to Parys and the Dome. They started the business Crater Coffees in 2012 with a vision to create an experience “Where coffee is more than just a drink…”.
The directors have changed over the years and the business is now run by husband and wife team Fanie and Tertia Pretorius.
We are a family-run business, with a passion for good coffee roasted to perfection. We thrive on challenges, and we are passionate about exceptional service with coffee being our core focus.

The coffee range Fanie has developed is such that it caters for just about any coffee drinker, and different brewing methods. Fresh coffee is our aim, at all times. What makes us unique is the level of service offered, always going the extra mile to ensure a happy client enjoys the best cup of coffee ever.
As artisan roaster, Fanie refuses to have flavoured coffee in a bag. Beans are roasted to extract the right amount of flavours/aroma and to ultimately compliment the farmer's beans to the best of his ability.

We believe in having freshly roasted coffee, never older than 2 months from the roast date in bean format. We have a weekly roasting program and grind coffee on demand with the FIFO stock control method (First in First out) to ensure freshness.
We always share our knowledge and our love of coffee and do our utmost to educate our clients on the world of coffee.
We attract a lot of tourists from Gauteng and North West to our small town, of course we cater for our local clients too. Feedback has always been positive, we have just recently had a review in the South African Coffee Magazine’s blog on our Choc Noir coffee.

Coffee is all over the world with each country’s unique roast and beans that suit the palate of their people. Our focus is on the South African market, which in its own right is very diverse and growing in coffee culture and knowledge.
Currently, only in South Africa, except when friends take coffee with them when visiting families abroad.
Innovations for us are really in exploring different roasting and cooling techniques, working with beans from different countries and testing different roast profiles.

I started my working life as an accountant, but soon realised that I needed opportunities where I can be creative (not creative accounting). I tried the life of a restaurateur for a while, then ERP Consultant/Project manager for 10 years, and finally I “found coffee” where I could live my creative dream. I love finding solutions for problems and the results are new products. My team is superb in executing my dreams and selling the new products.
“The Coffee Co” was founded in 2001 with an idea to rent bean-to-cup machines to the workspace and then sell great coffee. I bought the Company in 2003 and over the years I was pivotal to finding new solutions for clients ranging from coffee machines through freshly roasted coffee and all related soluble and consumable products to service. The national delivery is achieved through our franchise network. König Coffee is now a registered trademark, with a range of products we added to our stable while in “lockdown”.

To me, this is not work, it is what I do every day because I absolutely love the result of winning a new client over with a great cup of coffee.
After 19 years, it still excites me and I cannot stop talking about or sharing the experience with as many people as possible; from my partners, my own staff and every customer. You only have one life, so do not waste a day with bad coffee.
We keep on innovating and building products and systems to get our coffee to the people, like our newly launched coffee-in-a-bag for the hospitality industry, instead of instant sachets. This year we launched 4 new products.
We have from the highest quality, award-winning coffee for the coffee aficionados, to the newly launched UrnBag Coffee for the price sensitive, a mix of our coffee with chicory served in 20 litre urns for high volume consumers like Agri, Call Centres, Taxi Ranks etc.

We are a proudly South African story, but I would like to get an opportunity to export our CBD single-serve coffee, but we are not there yet.
In South Africa mostly and then in Namibia, Zambia and Mauritius.
We launched quite a number of new products recently and want to get market penetration first. My team stopped me from introducing more new stuff right now…

Our online store launched in February 2022 with a few months of planning and brainstorming, creating what we know now as Two Terriers Coffee.
We are two brothers who have developed our own appreciation and love for coffee. We realise coffee brings people together, creating memories in special places with the ones you hold dear.
Coffee is unique, and the Panama Geisha from Finca Santa Teresa is definitely at the top of our list. Being silly enough to import this remarkable bean, we were quite amazed by what we have achieved with it. Being one of the few companies in South Africa currently selling the bean makes it a special occurrence.

We prefer quality over convenience, and the quality of our products speaks for itself. We have world-class roasters who understand coffee.
Furthermore, we also understand the importance of client experience. A little feistiness and fearlessness also help a bit.
We would like to think that we cater to coffee enthusiasts and your everyday coffee drinker. We are in love with the outdoors, and we share our coffee experience online for more people to get out there and enjoy incredibly great coffee.
The Panama Geisha is one of a kind and certainly the most exquisite variety we have released. We hope to release equivalent coffee in the future and become a household name in South Africa and the Aurora Taste Challenge.

Our Malawi Geisha and Panama Geisha coffees have seen the shores of the international market and have been sent to Dubai, Taiwan, Namibia, and even the United States of America, so we are keen to see what the future holds.
We are based out in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, and we are looking at opening a few locations within the region soon.
In what countries can your products be found?
South Africa, but we can ship internationally.

We were founded in 2009. The idea of truth from the beginning was something based on principle, and when your name is truth, that creates one hell of a principle to live up to. We started out on a shoestring at the Prestwich memorial in Cape Town. By 2012, we were looking for a building to build a world-class café, and that’s what we set out to do.
Our signature steampunk café has won multiple awards, as the best café in the world, but you probably knew that already. More interesting are the coffees that have won awards and more recently the sourdough bread & ciabatta that have won Aurora Gold awards.
The reason for success is simple, we buy the best ingredients we can, and we surround ourselves with the best people we can. We are only as strong as our team and the community we are part of. Take Sourdough bread, it has only three ingredients, flour, water and time. Compromise on any of those and you have mediocrity. Therefore, we buy incredible flour from local mills, with excellent protein content, something most mills don't even measure, stone ground, and then filtered water and a multi-day process, where we slow down the bread to enhance certain types of fermentation. The result is something that tastes and lasts noticeably different. Our bread is often best on day two or three, try that with a supermarket loaf!
We don’t break our demographic up in the normal way. We believe people are either price focused or quality focused. Our demographic is made up of people who go out of the way for quality.

We believe we are respected on the global stage as a coffee company, and we have been used as a case study internationally. Now we continue our journey as a bakery too, the respect needs to be slowly and consistently earned, and we are walking that path with no compromise.
Our bread is found only in Cape Town, but our coffee is found on every continent, and we mean, every continent!
We always have innovations in the pipeline. We never speak about them before they’re launched. Maybe we will need to explore making the world’s best burger roll?

Our clients invest in Genio Roasters because that is what they want to own. They do not want another machine. They do not buy a Genio because it is more or less expensive than another machine, or because we offer this or that feature that others don’t. They buy Genio’s coffee roasting machines because it fulfils a dream: They dream of having a Genio machine stand proudly in their roastery and because they believe in Genio as a company, a brand and a lifelong partner.
Why buy a Genio? See for yourself!

Every Genio coffee roasting machine is designed as a drum roaster. It consists of a rotating drum that agitates the coffee beans. The drum rotates while the beans inside are heated, typically by means of a gas burner, while a fan draws hot air through the beans. It has a double-wall drum, which may result in a softer, more even application of minimal conduction heat to the beans. This intense focus on convection roasting is what gives coffee roasted on a Genio it’s unique floral yet full-bodied flavour. The cooling-down process is quick and controlled though a dedicated fan and a stirring motion of specially designed agitators.
Engineers have the mindset that there is no such thing as a problem that cannot be solved. It is just a matter of spending time and energy towards finding that solution.
At Genio we are devoted to keep on innovating and discovering new ways to respond to the unmet needs and preferences in the coffee roastery. When the final signature of quality is put on a Genio, you can be assured that it is done with the greatest of pride and confidence in the machines we design and manufacture.

Assembly represents the final phase in the process of manufacturing a Genio. It is here where the components supplied by outside suppliers, including our own manufactured engineering parts, are brought together to build a premium coffee roaster.
During assembly, one person performs all the tasks in the manufacturing process of a Genio. In so doing, the individual is accountable for everything that happens on the quality control of every part and every process of that machine up to the finished product.
At Genio quality control is seen as a process of personal commitment from the design of the roaster up to the assembly process and beyond.
Quality control involves maintaining a level of consistency in quality across the entire value chain.
We have set ourselves the highest quality manufacturing standards. Each one of our parts have stringent quality standards that must be passed. These standards lay the foundation for the final product and are continually updated as living documents that grow with us and with our customers’ expectations.
Quality control does not stop at Genio ticking the boxes on a checklist. Our suppliers need to adhere to our quality standards, and these standards are followed across every department at Genio, from the welding bay right through to our Customer Experience Team. We refer to it as the Genio life cycle – the entire value chain from end to end.

Our aim is to create not only the most beautifully designed coffee roasters, but also to bring you a product experience that will linger beyond every roast. We partner with you for life and our drive to continuously improve and innovate will be a benefit to you for as long as you are the proud owner of a Genio.

Genio’s range of premium coffee roasters
The Genio range of premium coffee roasters was developed by Neil Maree and perfected by the Genio engineering team. The Genio range is ideal for any type of roastery: from beginner or sample roasting to serious roasting operations where speed, consistency and reliability are key.
You can expect a high-performance, hand-crafted premium coffee roaster, engineered for optimal performance, batch after batch.
Why is a Green Bean Loader necessary in the roastery?
Lifting heavy bags of green coffee beans above your head and loading them into the hopper can be a back-breaking exercise and even pose an occupational health risk to you. We aim to improve your experience of the entire roasting process.
Why is a Destoner necessary in the roastery?
It is common to find foreign debris amongst green coffee beans because of the way the beans are harvested on the coffee plantations. This includes small stones, chips of concrete, small pieces of the coffee plant and twigs.
