The Aurora International Taste Challenge was held in South Africa for the second year running to celebrate and honour universal food quality. There is a serious need for unbiased assessment of food products to highlight the quality of artisan and specialty food producers, as well as that of some mainstream food producers who really excel. This challenge was established to recognise and award food product excellence, while helping consumers purchase award-winning, professionally rated products with confidence.
This was the second-year drinks were adjudicated at the Challenge, with high-end products entered. The judges were meticulous during their evaluation, but when the results were released it was Terra Madre whom attracted attention for the second year running.
A Gold award went to Terra Madre Cold Pressed PINK LADY. The awards are a stamp of excellence among consumers and merchants alike. The Aurora International Taste Challenge is judged from a consumer’s point of view, and the product’s taste is valued above all else, with no regard for branding or packaging.
Terra Madre Cold Pressed Granny Smith Apple Juice won the trophy in the 2019 Drinks Awards and followed this exceptional feat with Gold awarded to Terra Madre Cold Pressed PINK LADYin the 2020 Drinks Awards. Striving for the highest quality and freshness, this consistency can not go unnoticed.
Terra Madre only use single variety fruits that deliver intense, distinctive flavours. No sugar or preservatives are added. This quality fruit from the Elgin Valley is crushed & cold pressed to naturally extract pure juice. The unpasteurised juice is frozen on press day, locking in flavours & nutrients.

JulieBean Coffee was born in 2017 out of the desire to deliver more drinkable, quality coffee. After brewing coffees from all over the world and serving them to customers we decided to start roasting our own. We are only using Fair Trade Coffee beans. We have found that medium roasted (full city) roasted beans hit the spot for most coffee lovers.
Riaan Venter of JulieBean Coffee explains: “Roasting coffee is a skill and an art form. Small batch roasting is our thing. By hand-roasting all our beans we try to get the best flavor and taste of each of each of our batches. We do not mix any batches to make sure each roast is unique. Quality is important as we try to deliver this unique taste to you in foiled sealed bags for that extra freshness.”
We asked Riaan, do you have any innovations in the pipeline? "We are always fine tuning our roasting and brewing. I think with coffee you have to be innovative in taste and quality to keep your customers satisfied.
Oh, there might be a nitro coffee tap in the store in the near future."

CADAC was a natural partner as they are an international company based in South Africa with more than 70 years’ experience in creating the braai life. When we asked CADAC to partner with us, there was no hesitation as the representatives of the Institute of Culinary Arts could use state-of-the-art gas burners to braai the meat from entrants to perfection for the panellists to evaluate.
CADAC designs and manufactures products that maximise the enjoyment of the BBQ experience with family and friends. You can create exciting dishes on their BBQs, which is something else that they are passionate about; ‘barbequing’ or ‘braaiing’ as they call it in CADAC, is not just about grilling a hamburger, it is the experience of being able to create delicious and interesting meals.
With their many cooking tops, they offer unparalleled versatility. From grilling, to baking, boiling, slow cooking, argentine grilling, paella-pan cooking, teppanyaki-style cooking, oven-style cooking and roasting, to ‘Plancha’ grilling, a Spanish favourite.
